The earth continuity test is used to check the integrity of the protective earth within a Class 1 appliance, extension lead or powerboard.

It involves measuring the electrical resistance between the earth pin on the plug and the accessible earthed parts on a Class I appliance.

When performed on a lead or powerboard it is measured between the earth pin and the earth eperture on the socket of a lead or the outlets on a powerboard.
