Some Frequently Asked Questions about test and tagging

Why do I have to have my appliances test and tagged?

OH&S legislation requires you to provide and maintain a safe workplace. If you dont have your electrical appliances test and tagged on a regular basis, you have no real way of knowing if they are safe to use.  Test and tagging to AS/NZS 3760 is a recognised way to fulfill those OH&S obligations.

Test and tagging is mandatory on construction and demolition sites. Safety representatives will not allow you to use appliances on site unless they have been test and tagged according to AS/NZS 3012

Consideration must be given to other Industry Standards, Codes or practices that may dictate other requirements. The best practice should always be adopted.

How much does it cost to have appliances test and tagged?

This will depend on several factors including the type of appliances, how many you have and when you need them done.  ACME has a number of packages that include discounted and free services.  To find out more, go to our on-line form and request an obligation free quote.

What is involved in having them test and tagged?

The process developed and used by ACME over many years and used to check tens of thousands of appliances involves conducting a visual inspection of the appliance and/or lead followed by one or more electrical tests. This process fully complies with requirements of AS/NZS 3760.

What types of appliances need to be test and tagged?

As a rule of thumb – if you plug it in, you need to have it test and tagged.  The Standard AS/NZS 3760 makes provision for some types of appliances to be excluded. As part of our normal service, ACME technicians can help you identify which of your appliances need to be test and tagged and which ones you can exclude.  (yes, there are a number of exclusions open to you)

What about office equipment, like computers, do they have to be done as well?

Yes, they are the types of appliances described in the scope of AS/NZS 3760.

Is there any risk my appliances will be damaged during testing?

The process used and developed by ACME over many years has been proven to be 100% safe.

Do you have to be an electrician to test and tag appliances?

No, except in Queensland where you must be a licenced electrician. However, you must meet the definition of a competent person as detailed in AS/NZS 3760.
