The Standard AS/NZS 3760 is a document that defines the process of in-service safety inspection and testing of electrical appliances  connected to the electrical supply by a flexible cord and/or connecting device.

This process is what is known as test and tagging.

Is Test & Tagging compulsory because of the Standard ?

In it’s own right, test and tagging is not mandatory.  That’s because the Standard AS / NZS 3760 is not legislation.

However, all employers and business owners, from the self employed to national corporations, have a legal obligation under State and Federal OHS laws to provide and maintain a safe workplace – which includes the safety of electrical appliances. Failure to comply with your OH&S obligations can result in WorkSafe® inspectors imposing rectification orders or hefty fines.

For your specific industry, there may be a Code of Practice or Industry Standard that requires test and tagging and/or call up (refer to) the Standard.
